Discover inspirations, exceptional addresses, here and elsewhere

The fourth most visited department in France, the Hérault has many assets, attracting more than 3.2 million visitors each year. Located in the south of France and part of the Occitanie region, this department benefits from an ideal position enhanced by the Mediterranean coastline, its vineyards, its historical sites and its daily sunshine.

The Hérault hinterland has many towns and villages to discover. Montpellier and Pézenas are among these historical nuggets whose charm will not leave you indifferent. The various cirques, caves and lakes will delight all visitors and hikers in search of the most beautiful natural sites in France. But if you take the word "vacation" literally, Sète and its Italian-style port, the seaside resorts and the thalassotherapy centers of the Hérault will suit you perfectly if you want to relax. As you can see, in this wonderful part of France, there is something for everyone.

Spa hotel stay in Hérault

Map in hand, hat on your head and suitcases in your hotel room, you are ready to discover the wonders of this department, previously identified before your trip. If you are still hesitating about what to do or what not to miss, the editors of Unique Hôtel Spa are there for you. They suggest you original experiences to live at least once in your life, if you are in the Hérault region.

Romantic stay in the Hérault

Start your romantic space by taking a walk in one of the cities or villages of the Hérault department. You can choose between Sète, Montpellier, Agde, la Grande-Motte and the villages of Olargues, Minerve or Bouzigues.

Speaking of Sète, we have a great idea for you. Open to both the Thau Lagoon and the sea, Sète was built around the canals and lives to the rhythm of the trawlers that come to fill the stalls of the fish shops and the tables of the restaurants. Let yourself be carried away on a boat in the heart of the city while tasting Sète's marine specialties, such as the famous tielle.

If you are not seasick, you can also board an oyster farmer's boat to visit the oyster farms and parks along the Thau Lagoon. When you arrive at the port, you will discover the Mediterranean basin's own way of cultivating oysters, the rope cultivation.

Do not miss the sunset on the pond, to be admired from the terrace of the seafood restaurant St Bart' - Tarbouriech, in Marseillan. Instagrammable at will !

Wellness weekend in the Hérault

The department of Herault offers many luxurious spa hotels, wellness centers and beaches. So you are sure to find the perfect place for your cocooning moment.

Start your wellness break with an original activity. Let yourself be tempted by the oyster therapy by Tarbouriech and enjoy treatments inspired by the virtues of the oyster. Get ready to experience a moment of pure happiness with a facial, body treatment or a massage.

Then, for a moment of escape and relaxation, cross the doors of the thermal baths of Lamalou-les-Bains or the thermal baths of Balaruc-les-Bains. These temples of well-being offer you a wide range of services. We also suggest you try the Balnéocap in Cap d'Agde.

To fill up on vitamin D and recharge your batteries, head for one of the beaches of the Hérault. Among those we know, we recommend the beach of the Conque in Cap d'Agde, the beach of the Whale and Lazaret in Sète, the beach of Aresquiers in Vic-la-Gardiole and the beach of Grande Maïre in Sérignan.

If you want to relax in a luxurious setting, you can visit one of the starred spa hotels in the Hérault. We recommend the Verchant Spa in Castelnau-le-Lez which offers a gym, an indoor pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna, a hammam and 8 treatment rooms. Here is the ideal place to relax.

Finally, other hotels such as the Palmyra Golf Hotel in Cap d'Agde, the Château St Pierre de Serjac and the Auberge de Val Mourèze Hôtel & Spa will also offer you outstanding facilities for your greater well-being.

Culture, gastronomy and heritage in the Hérault

The Hérault department is full of cultural and heritage sites as well as remarkable natural and archaeological sites.

If you are fond of culture and unusual, fun and atypical museums, we have a few addresses for you. Push the doors of the Musée d'Art Brut in Montpellier, the Musée de la Tour des prisons in Lunel, the Musée Taurin in Béziers, the Musée Chapy or the Musée à ciel ouvert (MACO) in Sète. One thing is sure, you won't be bored for a second.

Continue your escapade by visiting one of the historical monuments of the Hérault. Between abbeys, priories and oenotouristic heritage you will find what you are looking for. We recommend the Abbey of Gellone in Saint Guilhem le Desert, the Castle-Abbey of Cassan, the Priory of Saint Michel de Grandmont and the Noilly Prat House.

Then, if you are looking for natural sites, we suggest the Cirque de Navacelles, the Grotte des Demoiselles, the Salagou lake and the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Languedoc.

Finally, like many people from Sète, your day could start at the market. You will find all the Mediterranean delicacies. To add a little "iodine" to your life, make a detour to the market's fish market and offer yourself the luxury of tasting purple fish. A marine animal living on the rocks of the sea, it is called biju by the people of Sete. Rocky on the outside, you will be delighted to discover its color when opened, similar to that of the passion fruit.

Program idea for a stay / weekend in Herault

Now that you have an idea of the activities that can be done in the Hérault, it is time to prepare a program to make the most of your time there. Many questions such as "what activities should I do?", "what site should I see first?" and "where should I sleep?" are running through your mind. Unique Hôtel Spa has decided to help you and proposes below an idea of a tourist circuit for a weekend in the Hérault.

Concerning your hotel, we advise you to spend a few nights or more in one of the rooms of Domaine de Verchant in Castelnau-le-Lez. You will discover a real corner of paradise with a gastronomic restaurant, luxurious rooms and a wellness area of no less than 2000 m².

Day 1: Visit of Montpellier

After your arrival in the department or your first night in your spa hotel, we suggest that you explore Montpellier. In the morning, stroll around the Place de la Comédie and the Charles de Gaulle esplanade, in the Jardin des Plantes (the oldest botanical garden in France) and in the historical center of Montpellier. For lunch, we recommend you to book a table in the Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant, le Jardin des Sens. Then we suggest you visit one of the city's museums. You can choose between the Fabre Museum or the Museum of Old Montpellier. Unless you prefer to drive to the beach and swim in Palavas or Carnon. At the end of the afternoon, go back to your hotel spa. Allow yourself a moment of relaxation in the Verchant Spa center. You will find an indoor swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna and a hammam. If you feel like it, let yourself be tempted by one of their treatments. In the evening, to close this beautiful day, have dinner at the hotel in the gastronomic restaurant Marcelle.

Day 2 : Visit of Pézenas

After your night and breakfast at the hotel, drive to the charming village of Pézenas (former capital of Languedoc and city of Molière), a few kilometers from Agde. In the morning, stroll through its beautiful streets with numerous shops, craftsmen, artists and mansions. For lunch, enjoy a delicious meal at the Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant, Lauzun. After this invigorating break, visit L'A-Musée Boby Lapointe.

The department of Herault is an ideal territory for a stay in couple, between friends, or family. You probably already know it because it is already famous for tourism, especially with Agde, Béziers, Sète, La Grande-Motte and Montpellier. If you have followed us so far, you know that you will find sublime spa hotels, natural and patrimonial sites, museums and wellness centers.
