Bas-Rhin, French department of the Grand Est region. It is part of the historical and cultural region of Alsace as well as the department of Haut-Rhin. Strasbourg, prefecture of the Bas-Rhin and also the place where the European Parliament is located. The inhabitants of this small department of the East is called Bas-Rhin. It enjoys its location as a border department with Germany.
The most surprising is the adjective "bas" when it is at the top. The reason is simple but astonishing, the river takes its source in Switzerland then it goes up towards Basel before arriving in France, in Alsace and finally the Rhine flows into the North Sea. Thus, the department bears its name due to its disposition towards the Rhine, at the "bottom". Do not confuse the geographical location of the two departments that make up Alsace.
This department is rich in a traditional and authentic heritage. Fall into the Alsatian history by making the Bas-Rhin your next destination.
